At Saturday’s Congleton Makers Market, a dedicated team of council members were on hand to spread the word about Congleton’s Neighbourhood Plan. Cllr Amanda Martin and Cllr Suzy Firkin manned the stall, offering information and answering questions about the plan’s vision and objectives. Later in the day, they were joined by Cllr Kay Wesley, the Town Mayor, strengthening the message of support and dedication to this vital community initiative.
A special thanks goes to Cllr Shaun Radcliffe, who set up the stall early in the morning to ensure the team was ready to engage with residents as soon as the market opened at 10 am. Their collective efforts allowed the community to learn more about the Neighbourhood Plan and understand why it’s crucial for shaping the future of Congleton.
Why the Neighbourhood Plan Matters
The Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led framework, giving residents a unique opportunity to directly influence the development and growth of Congleton. Through this plan, local voices can shape future housing, transportation, public spaces, and amenities in a way that aligns with community needs and values. By filling out the surveys provided, Congleton residents can actively participate in decisions about their town’s future.
The Neighbourhood Plan’s success depends on resident input. The more responses we receive, the clearer the town’s priorities and vision will become. This feedback will help guide planning policies that impact areas such as:
- Local Infrastructure and Development: Addressing community concerns around new housing, road safety, and public amenities.
- Sustainable Growth: Ensuring that future developments are eco-friendly and enhance, rather than compromise, the town’s character.
- Community Identity: Celebrating what makes Congleton unique and fostering a sense of pride and connection.
If you missed the stall this weekend, there will be more opportunities to speak with officers and councillors at the drop-in sessions taking place at Congleton Town Hall from 4-6 pm starting Thursday 7th November.
We urge everyone in Congleton to fill out the Neighbourhood Plan survey so that the town’s future reflects the community’s shared values and goals.
Thank you to the organisers of the Congleton Makers Market for providing this platform to connect with our community. The Makers Market returns to town on the last Saturday of every month.
